Crazy for Cranberries
Food stylist Wendy Powell lives in charming Marshfield, MA. Shooting at her home is a culinary vintage prop haven with breathtaking views. The dish at hand is Pork Roulade with Green and Pickled Cranberries.

I joined Wendy at her Marshfield home on a shoot for the Cranberry Marketing Committee. Through her son’s suggestion, we listened to his favorite band (at least on that day of the week), Passion Pit. It was a beautiful fall day, with a cranberry-inspired dish and cranberry bogs within sight…seemed like a natural progression to have cranberries on the branch in several of the shots. Rarely do we get the opportunity to shoot within the current season of the dish.
A few days later meant a return trip to Marshfield to visit Wendy’s neighbor’s cranberry bog during the harvest. I realized that day I enjoy every fall season more than the year before. Something about the crisp air and the crackling leaves under my feet, the vibrant colors surrounding me. I am in sensory overload if there’s a burning fireplace within nose range!
Carleton Chandler. His name even sounds like a cranberry bog owner! Carleton Chandler is Wendy’s neighbor—the owner of the Marshfield Cranberry Co.
One of the Marshfield Cranberry Company’s bogs had already been flooded the day before we arrived. The flooding popped the cranberries off the branches. The berries were corralled together and pushed up the conveyor belt into an 18-wheeler truck. We got shots from above the truck, around the bog and even in the water.
